Central Wales is one of the most dramatic stretches of railway in Britain, and this journey covers it well: departing Birmingham, through the mountains, and down to the sea at Aberystwyth. The train is hauled by our resident Class 37, 37240, running double-headed with a Class 97 from Shrewsbury onward.
At Aberystwyth
You arrive with over five hours to explore, including the Vale of Rheidol Railway, the Cliff Railway, the castle ruins, and the promenade. While you’re there, a chartered double-headed train on the Vale of Rheidol Railway runs a return journey to Devil’s Bridge, available as an add-on for just £30 per person.
