Do you have a fondness for the old days, for nostalgic travel by steam train off to family summer holidays, perhaps enjoying a picnic lunch as the luscious English countryside rolled by. That experience can come alive again with Vintage Trains and in particular, on our Thames Valley and Chilterns Luncheon Circular.
The Didcot to Oxford branch line of the Great Western Railway opened in June 1844. On Saturday 15th June 2019, stations along the line between Oxford and Didcot will be celebrating the line’s 175th anniversary, so Vintage Trains has teamed up with Oxford 175 to take a trip back to those nostalgic summer days by offering you a very special train – the Thames Valley and Chilterns Luncheon Circular. We are also running the Oxford 175 Express to/from Birmingham stations (click for more details)
En route you will be enjoy an excellent, silver-served 4-course lunch with a selection of fine wines or choose our new Gourmet picnic hamper (just like the old days) filled with delicious goodies, seated in sumptuous surroundings through the beautiful English countryside.
Departing Oxford, we travel to Didcot along the celebrated line, before turning onto Brunell's Billiard Table through the Thames Valley. As we approach London, we turn off the GWR Mainline, looping back to Greenford.
On our journey through the Chiltern hills, Clun Castle will be heard working hard up the famous Saunderton Bank incline between High Wycombe and Princes Risborough, then she will stretch her legs along the Chiltern mainline to Bicester before returning home to Oxford Parkway & Oxford.
Come and join us on a day to remember – for all the family!
We are offering the following choices of travel:
