Christmas White Rose (York via Tamworth) – Saturday 14th December

York Minster

In our first of two Christmas White Rose trains to York, we plan to traverse our more established route via Tamworth and Burton-on-Trent.

The route avoiding Derby and up the Erewash Valley allows us to stop at Ilkeston; the first time 7029 has ever stopped at this station.

The ever-popular city of York has many attractions for the day visitor as well as the Christmas shopper looking for the perfect gift. If shopping isn’t for you, inside York’s three miles of city walls there is evidence of Roman, Viking and Medieval history, mixed with classic architecture from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Why not visit the Gothic splendour of York Minster with its Rose Window, the Castle Museum, the National Railway Museum (free entry) or the Jorvik Viking Experience to name just a few. Alternatively, boat trips are available on the River Ouse, or you can pre-book an open-top bus tour or simply browse around the medieval shopping streets of Stonegate and The Shambles.

This year, as with previous, we plan to fully utilise ‘REG’ the Water Carrier to reduce the water stops, therefore reducing the journey times and allowing us to include a short photo stop at Pontefract in the morning – weather dependent of course!

Passengers can join the train at Dorridge, Solihull, Tyseley (Mainline Station), Coleshill Parkway, Tamworth and Burton-on-Trent and Ilkeston

Steam hauled throughout by No: 7029 “Clun Castle” with heating assistance from 47773
