Christmas White Rose (York via Nuneaton, Leicester & Ilkeston) – Saturday 9th December
This year we are offering two Christmas trips to York on subsequent weekends with slightly different passenger pickups for your convenience. This first Christmas White Rose will travel the route we used to use via Nuneaton and Leicester with additional stops at East Midlands Parkway and Ilkeston. 5043 will be the first steam locomotive to pickup and drop off passengers at Ilkeston since the closure of Ilkeston Junction Station on 2nd January 1967!
The ever-popular city of York has many attractions for the day visitor as well as the Christmas shopper looking for the perfect gift. If shopping isn’t for you, inside York’s three miles of city walls there is evidence of Roman, Viking and Medieval history, mixed with classic architecture from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Why not visit the Gothic splendour of York Minster with its Rose Window, the Castle Museum, the National Railway Museum (free entry) or the Jorvik Viking Experience to name just a few. Alternatively, boat trips are available on the River Ouse, or you can pre-book an open-top bus tour or simply browse around the medieval shopping streets of Stonegate and The Shambles.
This year, as with previous, we plan to fully utilise ‘REG’ the Water Carrier to reduce the water stops, therefore reducing the journey times and allowing us to include a short photo stop at Pontefract in the morning – weather dependent of course!
Passengers can join the train at Tyseley Warwick Road, Coleshill Parkway, Nuneaton, Leicester, East Midlands Parkway and the newly re-opened station at Ilkeston.
Steam hauled throughout by No: 5043 “Earl of Mount Edgcumbe”
