STEAM HAULED TRAIN FROM IRONBRIDGE
Special excursion down the mothballed Coalbrookdale
Two shuttles hauled by 7029 Clun Castle
Likely to be the final passenger train down the branch
Storming Coalbrookdale with Clun Castle
Vintage Trains offers an exclusive opportunity on Sunday June 9th 2019 to ride on the mothballed
Hauled up the branch by 7029 Clun Castle, the train
will pick up at Wellington (Salop) and Telford with Clun Castle at the
head. The train will the reverse down
the branch from Madeley Junction with diesel haulage as far as the Albert
Edward Bridge, close to Ironbridge power station.
The power station is now closed and the train is
not allowed to cross the bridge – however we now prepare for Clun Castle to
storm the steep incline, crossing the picturesque brick-built 26-arch
Coalbrookdale viaduct running alongside the Abraham Darby ironworks furnaces,
back to the main line. We return to our start points diesel hauled.
This excursion is likely to be the final
opportunity to travel down the branch so early booking is recommended -
standard class only at £25 per person.
