GLOUCESTER GOES RETRO – 7029 CLUN CASTLE RETURNS HOME

SATURDAY AUGUST 24th 2019

  • Clun Castle returns to its final home in British Railways days

  • Visit the fabulous trip back in time – ‘Gloucester Goes Retro’ festival

  • Full silver-service dining and Vintage Trains Gourmet hampers available

As Gloucester’s unique ‘blast from the past’ retro festival returns in 2019, Vintage Trains will add its own steam powered nostalgia with a trip to Gloucester hauled by 7029 Clun Castle from the West Midlands.

The event takes place on Saturday 24th August as part of the Gloucester Summer of Music, Arts and Culture, which runs from July through August. For the day, the Gate Streets of the City are taken back in time featuring vintage-inspired entertainment and classic relics from bygone eras including over 400 vintage and classic cars, a music stage, fashions from all ages – visitors are encouraged to come in period clothing - there’s something for everyone. Even the original cast members from ‘Allo Allo’ will be on the streets – say hello to Herr Flick, Yvette, Helga, Gruber and Officer Crabtree. World Wars One and Two will feature in displays, Rock and Rollers will be on the streets, American gangsters and even Star Wars Stormtroopers will catch your eye.

This will also be a homecoming for Clun Castle as Gloucester Horton Road engine shed was Clun’s final home in BR days before withdrawal and subsequent purchase/move to Tyseley.  Clun will be on display to all festival visitors at the station during her short stay in the city.

‘The Gloucester Retro’ will start from Solihull, picking up at Dorridge, Warwick Parkway and Banbury before heading through Oxford, Wiltshire and into the Cotswolds on a picturesque tour towards Gloucester. Arriving in the heart of the City, our travelers will have several hours to explore the delights of the retro festival before departure for home, returning via the same route.

The following travel choices are available:

  • First Class Dining at £219 per person will include a full English breakfast on the outward journey and a 4-course dinner, silver-served at the table on return. Seating is offered at tables of 4, or for a supplement of £20 per person, tables for 2.
